March 28 & 29
It’s our last weekend in Cameroon! Started off with breakfast and then saw one girl in clinic who had rickets; first case Nick has ever seen. Afterwards we went to market and then waited for the seamstress to come back to the hostel. She had made some adjustments so I could finally get my skirt on. You can see our pictures attached of our matching African gear that she tailored for us, which could come back at Halloween this year, so consider it a sneak peak! For lunch, Dr. Harvey and his wife, Margaret, from Holland, MI, had a going away party for themselves with the surgical residents and we were invited. It was a traditional African lunch with fufu and jamajama, probably our last time to get it before we head out! In the afternoon, we did some reading and welcomed another med student who will be here for one month. After dinner it finally started raining again, so we were inside reading and watching “heroes.”
Sunday we ate breakfast and then headed out on a hike to beat the heat before noon, but the humidity is back in full strength so we lasted just shy of 2 hrs. We washed up the rest of our laundry and started packing our bags, deciding which clothes and supplies we will leave behind. We walked over to Christine’s house for a short visit before dinner. A quiet night finishing up “heroes,” finally!
